Scratch Offs and Power Ball
The lottery in the form of scratch off tickets and weekly number drawings is something that occupies many Americans free time. Gambling is something people get into the habit of doing. Every day on the way home from work they will stop at the gas station and pick up a scratch off, or a power ball ticket. There are the ones who say they only buy when the jackpot is above a hundred million. These people are tricking themselves into thinking they are being practical, but anyway you look at it they are gambling.
There are lotteries the span across many different states, and there are lotteries that are solely for the state they are in. All of the states have a law that determines how old you must be to gamble. This is a law that varies from state to state. Lots of states only require you to be 18 to gamble. This is the age when you can purchase cigarettes and vote so it makes sense.
In some states they are trying to raise the age to play the lottery to 21. This will only hurt the revenue they have been enjoying so far. The thought is to stop gambling addiction in the younger age range. They feel like it can contribute the crime in the area, because people steal and mug to fund their habit.
Casinos
There are many casinos all across the country that offers an enticing product to customers. The product is the chance to win a lot of money. The age of casino patrons in most states is set at 21. The reason for this is because most casinos serve alcohol and cannot allow underage customers inside. There are still some states where it is okay for an 18 year old to gamble in a casino. Gambling is still illegal in most states, but there are casinos allowed on Indian Reservations, and of course in Las Vegas.
Mutual Gambling
Mutual Gambling is a group of people who all put in a certain amount of money, and the winner gets it all. The usual suspect in these types of gambling groups is a sports team of some sort. Fantasy Football is a perfect example of mutual gambling. The age limit on this type of gambling also varies by state. Most states stick firm with the age of 18. This type of gambling is harder to monitor, because it can happen anywhere.
Online Betting
Another type of gambling that can be hard to monitor is online gambling. That is why there has been a recent growth in Sweepstakes Internet Gambling Locations all over. The states do not have specific rules set for online gambling. Due to the Sweepstakes and Lucky Seven stations that have brought gambling to several small towns using this Internet loophole, they are taking a closer look at the laws that they have in place.
